Storms Possible This Evening-Winter Returns Next Week

There is a slight risk of Severe Storms today and early tonight for the SEARK,  depending on how much moisture is able to return to the state and how much instability is able to form this afternoon.  Currently, dewpoints are in the 40s across the SEARK(not much moisture).  If we get enough sun today to bring temps up substancially, we could have some severe storms this afternoon and evening.  Due to the very strong vertical shear (wind energy) expected, the main threat with any severe storm that does develop is isolated tornadoes. Again, this is due to the very strong low-level wind shear.   The greatest threat for severe weather, according to the NWS, is areas east of a Newport to Little Rock to Arkadelphia line.  Because of the speed of the storms, heavy rain is not expected to be a major threat.

Next week, we welcome back the return of Ol' Man winter.  And according to Accuweather.com's chief  long-range weather expert Joe Bastardi, with the return of winter, the U.S. could have one it's coldest Februarys in some time- especially in the South and East.
