A cold front moved through The SEARK yesterday bringing strong north-westerly winds, drier air and cooler temperatures to the area. This morning, the front was situated along the Gulf Coast area.
Sunny conditions will persist today as high pressure continues to engulf the area.
A storm system that is currently in Arizona will move into West Texas by early tomorrow and begin to spread clouds into the Natural State. By Midday, precipitation will begin to break out in far southern Arkansas in the form of sleet and snow. This will move into SEARK soon after.
For this reason, a Winter Storm Watch has been posted for the southern half of the state. Snow amounts from 2-4 inches are expected south of a line, from Mena to Conway to Augusta. Farther south, four to as many as 8 inches are possible, south of a Hot Springs to Little Rock to Brinkley line.
The storm system is expected to track along the Gulf coast and move east of the area early Monday. The exact track of the system will determine where the higher amounts of snow will fall. If this storm does come to fruition, don’t expect temperatures to get above freezing for a couple of days at least. Temperatures will drop to the teens at night.
The latest NAM weather model, projected 48 hour snowfall map , as of this post, projects the heaviest of the snow along the ARKLAMISS border areas.
