A multifaceted storm already dubbed “The Groundhog Blizzard”, is gearing up to bring many portions of the U.S. to a standstill. Snow with blizzard conditions, crippling sleet and ice, heavy rains and even the threat for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes is about to unleash itself on the nation. A “state of emergency” has already been declared in several states, as they prepare for what could be the most ferocious storm to hit the Midwest in decades. Snow and freezing rain is already falling in some areas as the arctic front pulses its way through the middle part of the country.
For the SEARK, it looks as though we will stay in the warm sector of the massive storm throughout its visit to the Natural State. And as it gains strength and moves northeast across the state, thunderstorms are expected to develop over southern Arkansas and Louisiana by midday Tuesday and move quickly into Mississippi where the greatest threat for tornadoes will exist. The SEARK is under a “slight risk” for severe weather tomorrow.
High winds and heavy rain are the main threat for the SEARK, and as the low-pressure moves away, high winds will begin to usher in some of the most bone-chilling temperatures of the winter thus far.
