It was another dreary Thursday here in the SEARK, with a light rain falling most of the day and temperatures struggling to reach the mid 40's. The storm system is currently exiting our area but is promising to bring record snowfalls and blizzard conditions to the Mid Atlantic region by Saturday.
Thanks to the dynamic duo (talking about El Nino and the subtropical jet stream), this will not be the last of the storms. As each successive storm leaves the region, it pulls down a little bit of arctic air on its backside. And with a fresh batch of arctic air coming in late this weekend, and as a storm system will be forming in the southern plains, the stage is being set for another close call-as far as the SEARK, getting any significant wintry weather is concerned. Timing is everything when it comes to the SEARK getting frozen precipitation. Will the cold be cold enough? Will the storm come in after nightfall (always a plus if you are a snowbird)?
And those of you planning a romantic getaway late next week-be prepared for alternate plans. Both the GFS and the DGEX show accumulated snowfall on Friday (Feb 12th), with the DGEX forecasting the most significant amount for the SEARK. Wild snow hype anyway!
It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds-much like the Super Bowl this weekend. My pick? Colts 28, Saints 24.
