Between a Block and a Cold Front-That’s Our Weather

A stubborn, blocking high pressure system to our southeast and a weak cold front to our northwest is keeping a rather unsettled weather pattern in our forecast for the next few days. Upper level impulses ride the moist, southwest flow aloft and interact with the daytime heating and instability to spark off numerous showers and thunderstorms, some which contain large hail and heavy rain. For many of us in the SEARK region, the track of these storms has been  to our northwest, just missing us.  We are still in the midst of a prolonged drought and desperately need any precipitation that falls.
This carbon-copy weather pattern looks to persist until at least Thursday, when a stronger cold front looks to sweep through the Natural State, and give us a pleasant Memorial Day weekend.
Until that happens we are stuck in between the proverbial “ rock and a hard place” .
